Over the weekend, I participated in a very interesting online discussion of websites. Shelley Munro (of http://www.shelleymunro.com/) started this topic on a writers' loop about what should or should not be present in an author website. In my opinion, Shelley has a great site, and you should check hers out for a good model.
The following are my choices for the basic pages in an author website: books, a blog, about with social media, and contact. Of course, extras make it more fun to visit. You also need to keep it fresh and updated. These are all my opinions.
A lot of discussion was about what people do not like to see on a site. There were lists made of what causes a reader to leave a site. I agreed with a lot of what was said.
The most important thing is that people don't leave your site as soon as they get there. Here are some of the offenders that were listed in the discussion over the weekend. Please take the poll. You can check more than one item and even add an offender. What offends you most in a site?
