At Readerlicious.com, the writers post short stories during holidays. My story, Thankful, is a set in the world I began with another story I posted called Rescue Me (click the title to read it). In Rescue Me, you meet Trent during his summer stint at an animal shelter. In Thankful, I've brought you to Thanksgiving week, and you have the story from Andi's point of view. I posted Part One of the story earlier this week. I hope you'll read Part Two at Readerlicious. Here is a teaser. To all the readers in the US, have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Thankful (Part Two)
I check my watch for the fifty bazillionth time. It’s 1:00 pm and no Trent. There’s a spread of turkey and side dishes that could feed twenty. We’ve finished eating, but I picked at my food.
“Maybe he decided to go with his family,” Mom says in a sympathetic voice. She goes for another piece of pecan pie. “He probably didn’t have time to call to let you know.”
“He called last night and said he would be here. Picking up the phone takes a second, Mom. No wonder he doesn’t have any friends at school. He’s just rude.” His absence shouldn’t surprise me. He stood me up at the lake and now today.
“Men are different. They don’t think the way we do.” Mom glances at Dad already lounging on the couch in a half-snooze. The football game blares from the television. “I’m sure he didn’t think about calling.”
