I have this fascination with alien movies, shows, and books. I've inserted two clips below. One film costs a lot more than the other to make.

After checking out the clips, please be sure to enter my January giveaway. Entry options change throughout the month, so there are different ways to enter if you visit often.

Video #1: R'ha

A digital film student made a film that didn't cost millions to make. A 22-year-old student, Kaleb Lechowski, created this short. It's his first animated 3-D. Be prepared to be blown away by this movie short called R'ha.The movie short is also at http://vimeo.com/57148705 . I hope Alex Cavanaugh and Michael Offutt watch this. I consider them both sci-fi movie connoisseurs.

Video #2: The Host

I loved the book by Stephenie Meyer. I know lots of Twilight lovers didn't care for the book. I think I liked it because it was more of a sci-fi novel.

I've disclosed my alien obsession. Maybe it's weird. While I'm at it, I might as well confess that I'm obsessed with Bigfoot shows. ;/

Are you obsessed with anything like this, or is it just me? Mermaids, reality shows, gnomes, Kings of Leon? Wait. That last one was my obsession again. Sorry.

It's amazing what independent filmmakers can come up with. R'ha was very impressive!

01/17/2013 8:07pm

Very impressive! He did a great job with next to no budget. It is possible though. The film Monsters was created by director Gareth Edwards for less than half a million, and it was brilliant. (He's doing next year's Godzilla, and I am stoked for it!)

I can't wait for Godzilla.

I've seen R'ha before. I went to film school. I could not have done anything nearly this awesome. Maybe 1%, maybe.

01/18/2013 2:30am

Yeeeesss...I can see you liking aliens (I've read The Waiting Booth don't forget!). So Godzilla's making a comeback - can't wait for that!

01/18/2013 9:16am

I saw that video yesterday - twice - for R'ha. So impressive. I think I linked to it myself in this morning's post.

I wouldn't say I *love* aliens, but I like them a lot. I wish there were more movies that portrayed them in more alien-y fashion.

I think I'm obsessed with my computer! And now that we're away from home and I have to use my laptop my shoulder and upper arm are suffering from the ergonomically incorrect setup here in wonderful Hilton Head. Never mind. Í just take more walks on the beach and I'm going for a massage in a few minutes. Ah, woe is me!

Brinda
01/18/2013 7:17pm

Oh, I'm obsessed with my computer, too. Just try to take mine away from me.

Really enjoyed thi post, Brinda. Loved both of the video clips. Hard to believe R'ha didn't cost a lot and was made by a student. The Meyer's clip is pretty good bc it makes me want to see the movie. (I haven't read the book yet, but the story sounds interesting).

01/18/2013 10:52am

I have never been fascinated by stars or aliens. I don't know if that shows a lack of imagination or what. My husband is an all things space freak. Go figure.

01/18/2013 11:04am

R'ha was fascinating. I wonder if they did all that using Adobe software. It's incredible how talented some people are. I imagine it will win some awards and put these people behind the project on the Hollywood map. Thanks for showing me that short.

I'm looking forward to "The Host."

Alien and Aliens are two of my all-time favorite movies, so you should know where I stand in regards to Aliens. :)

R'ha is nothing short of stunning! I am blown away by the quality of those graphics. And I am so excited for The Host! I have a bit of an obsession with anything science fiction, really--I'm a total science geek so I love reading that kind of material :)

Brinda

I'm a science geek as well!!

I am obsessed with anything supernatural. Books movies whatever. It takes me out of real life for awhile.

01/18/2013 2:06pm

I agree with Julie Rupert.

How did you like Prometheus? I was a bit disappointed, especially since I had been drooling to see it.

Brinda
01/18/2013 7:18pm

I didn't care for Prometheus. I really wanted to like it more.

01/18/2013 2:20pm

Okay, Brinda. You've done it again. You pulled me into the fear factor. I loved the first because it relied so much on the sounds of his voice and allowed our imaginations to run rampant. The second one reminded me of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (remade twice now I think).

I see in the comments I've missed an entire generation's worth of fear and fantasy ... How about you guys do a musical blog ... like the only musicals you can hop to are silly and retro fifties ... or even Greese like. Don't you want to see John wiggle those hips again? Doesn't anyone want to go to the hills and sing to The Sound of Music one more time: Where have all the tap dancers gone now that no one is Singing in the Rain? Oh my ... I think I'm on an alien planet and I never left "earth." :)

Brinda

Oh, Florence. I have the soundtrack to Grease memorized. My sister and I did home-based musicals of it as kids.

Thanks for sharing those videos! I have always had a mini obsession with aliens too. Loved the show Roswell years back:p Thanks!

Awesome! The video for The Host gives me goosebumps!! I can't wait to watch it!! And the video for R'ha...Oh my gosh!! SO good! Thanks for sharing =)

01/18/2013 5:24pm

I miss aliens. That short movie is fantastic. I'd love to see more of the story. I hope he makes more.

Brinda

I laughed at your comment about missing aliens. Yes, the creator of R'ha certainly has a bright future.

I can't wait to watch The Host! I'm debating on whether I should read the book before seeing the movie though. As for obsessions - BOOKS. I really don't care what genre - I just MUST have them. :)

I think it's worth reading before. I must warn you that many readers say the first chapters are a difficult read. Get past those and you'll love it!

Recently, since I was reading LUX series by Jennifer Armentrout, I became a huge fan of alien. I mean, if alien as hot as Daemon Black, well...I don't mind at all *grin*

Oh, I can't wait The Host. Loved the book.

Brinda

I am dying to read that series.

I love aliens and scifi! The Klingons and Vulcans are high on the list of my fav aliens. I'm a huge fan of androids and robots too.

I forgot to add: R'ha is amazing! So well made, so good, so very dark.

Can't wait for the host! Love that book!
Apparently I'm obsessed with my kindle - I never put it down!

01/19/2013 9:15am

Thank you for the review and for the giveaway!

01/19/2013 1:01pm

Wow!!! That film student is an awesome filmaker already! Great short film!

And the Host looks really good. I didn't like Twilight, and the idea of a romance between a creature that's thousands of years older than another doesn't really make sense to me, but my niece got me hooked on The Host and I really liked it.

Brinda
01/19/2013 5:25pm

I thought The Host was a better book. Many disagree with me, but I can see we are on the same page. lol

Excellent videos! The Host looks good. I admit I'm not a Twilight fanatic but The Host is different and is more my thing.

That first film is amazing.

I'd like to read The Host. I think I have the ebook already.

The talent that this student has blows me away, especially considering that this is his first

The Host looks like it will be good, however I wish to read the book before seeing the movie

01/21/2013 1:20pm

I've been wanting to read The Host, but haven't found the time. One of my friends loved it, the other hated it. I guess I'll have to decide for myself.

Already read this book but I don't know, this is just not for me I think. But I probably want to watch the movie :)
