Today is Insecure Writer's Support Group Day as proclaimed by author Alex Cavanaugh. It's a great time to talk about things with support from other bloggers. If you want to join this group, click here. 

Every author puts his work out there and holds his breath while waiting for a review. Reviews can be found on Amazon, B & N, Goodreads, a blog, Twitter, etc.  All reviews are welcome. (I suddenly heard that Poltergeist lady saying that. All are welcome. All are welcome. Go into the light. If you haven't seen the movie, you'll think I'm bonkers.) Maybe I should say, "All good reviews are welcome." On a scale of 1 - 5, you pray for those 4s and 5s. Reviews help readers choose the book they'll buy when browsing the book reseller sites.

Authors and publishers may also submit books for review. All reviews, no matter the source, are very subjective. I know this because I've had people recommend books that I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy. The same goes for movies. So, it's a matter of taste in some cases. We are going with a majority vote here. If EVERYONE says it's bad, it may really be bad.

I have been lucky to receive good reviews for The Waiting Booth on Amazon, Goodreads, book review sites and personal blogs. I almost feel I'm jinxing myself with this post. I'm WAITING for the bad review. You know...the one that says that the author is CRAZY to pursue writing. It's going to happen. It's a matter of when and how bad it will be. As a matter of fact, I have no self-confidence when it comes to my reviews. When I know a scheduled review is coming, I make myself a nervous wreck worrying about it. I think, "Here it begins. The beginning of the end. And I had such a good start." Last week, I stumbled upon a person on Twitter who stated that she was reading my book. Yay! Somebody bought my book. Then, later, I discovered that she reviewed it on her book review site. I might have thrown up in my mouth...a little. Yes, I know I'm supposed to have a tough skin as a writer. I'm still growing it.

You would think I would celebrate a good review. Maybe I would do a little samba. The extreme nervousness of anticipating a bad review kind of takes that celebration down a notch. It's similar to the relief you feel when that car driven by the old man doesn't hit you as it swerves into your lane.
