Today, we're celebrating The End of the World Book Blast and Giveaway with Theresa McClinton. Theresa has a debut release called The Stone Guardian.

I'm crazy about the cover and blurb for The Stone Guardian.  I think both are very original and exciting. Theresa is giving away prizes in the Rafflecopter below, so be sure to enter!

When myth becomes reality, reality becomes a nightmare.

Picture
Like any other teenager in America, Ashley just wants a normal life. But growing up in an orphanage for the insane is anything but normal. After endless therapy and increasing medication, her nightmares have only gotten worse.

Probably because they’re not nightmares.

When Ashley’s mysteriously abducted, she finds a reality even less normal than the orphanage. And she discovers something else—she’s no ordinary orphan. Faced with enemies thought to only exist in fairy tales, Ashley discovers she possesses a powerful Maya bloodline. She’s the daughter of an ancient Maya Guardian, whose duty is to protect the Stone of Muuk’ich, an enchanted relic blessed by the gods. But first she must get it back from Sarian, a power-hungry demigod who slaughtered the last guardian—Ashley’s mother. Without the stone, all will be lost.

When she meets Arwan, a hot Belizean time bender, his delicious olive skin and dark eyes make her feel a little less alone. But his gentle whispers and reassuring touch might not be all they seem. How can she balance love and duty when it’s up to her to prevent the rising of the underworld? Especially when the guy she loves might be its crown prince…

About Theresa McClinton

Picture
A long time enthusiast of things that go bump in the night, Theresa started her writing career as a journalism intern—possibly the least creative writing field out there. After her first semester at a local newspaper, she washed her hands of press releases and features articles to delve into the whimsical world of young adult paranormal romance.

Since then, Theresa has gotten married, had three terrific kids, moved to central Ohio, and was repeatedly guilt tripped into adopting a menagerie of animals that are now members of the family. But don’t be fooled by her domesticated appearance. Her greatest love is travel. Having stepped foot on the soil of over a dozen countries, traveled to sixteen U.S. states—including an extended seven-year stay in Kodiak, Alaska—she is anything but settled down. But wherever life brings her, she will continue to weave tales of adventure and love with the hope her stories will bring joy and inspiration to her readers.

BLOGFEST: Jenny, Blood Fugue's leading lady, is a young woman with old heartaches. She really struggles with making peace with her past. All she has truly known about her family is death and detachment. The beginning of Blood Fugue changes all that...

Being a woman of action, Jenny aims to reconcile the bad hand she's been dealt the only way she knows how: By literally burying a hatchet in the thing she is struggling with.

The idea for the blogfest is simple: We all have something, or someone, we'd like to bury the hatchet in (Jenny style). Maybe it's rush-hour traffic, maybe it's Christmas decorations in stores in September, maybe it's the spammer leaving those stupid "My am enjoying your immense blogging pleasure and would like you to look at my site." messages--who, or what, ever works.

RESPONSE: I'd like to bury the hatchet on several that EJ has mentioned. He really spoke to me when he mentioned rush hour traffic. I commute at least 100 miles (total) everyday. If I don't leave within a 5 minute window and get on the interstate, I will add  at least 10-15 minutes to my commute that trip. What's worse is that there seems to be a wreck once a week. When there is an accident, traffic slows to a crawl as drivers must rubberneck and take notes. My one hour trip turned into one hr and 45 min. last week. So, yeah, I'd like to bury the hatchet in that annoying part of day. Whew! It's good to get that out in the open. Now, please read on to hear about E.J.'s book, Blood Fugue.

What's BLOOD FUGUE about?

Armed only with an ancient family journal, her rifle, and an Apache tomahawk, Jenny must save her grandfather’s life and embrace her dangerous heritage. Or be devoured by it. Blood Fugue, by E.J. Wesley, is the first of the Moonsongs books, a series of paranormal-action novelettes.

BLOOD FUGUE is available now via SmashwordsAmazon, and Barnes & Noble and most other eBook retailers. Check out the author on Goodreads

I recently finished the audiobook for Divergent. While listening, I couldn't help but compare it to The Hunger Games. There are striking similarities as you can probably tell from the trailer. I saw the funniest Facebook game where you choose which faction (a term indicating a certain group in this society) to assign Katniss Everdeen and Justin Bieber. There's a link to the Facebook quiz to determine your faction at the bottom of this post. Summit Entertainment has the movie rights, so I expect that we'll see it in the theaters as some point.

Similarities:
  1. Teens die in physical challenges.
  2. Dysfunctional society
  3. Strong female protag (physically and emotionally)
  4. Protag leaves her family behind and misses her sibling.
  5. There's a ceremony to determine fate of the teen.
  6. It's Book 1 of a trilogy.

If you want to read the first 100 pages to see if you're hooked, Harper Teen has posted the excerpt HERE

If you'd like to see which faction you'd be assigned to in this society, CLICK HERE to take the quiz on Facebook. I took the test. I'm assigned to Amity, The Peaceful.

Today is the Catch Fire Blog Party, celebrating the release of CassaFire by Alex J. Cavanaugh! The goal is to help CassaFire “catch fire” on the best seller charts and achieve the success of the first book, CassaStar. CassaFire

by Alex J. Cavanaugh

CassaStar was just the beginning…

The Vindicarn War is a distant memory and Byron’s days of piloting Cosbolt fighters are over. He has kept the promise he made to his fallen mentor and friend - to probe space on an exploration vessel. Shuttle work is dull, but it’s a free and solitary existence. The senior officer is content with his life aboard the Rennather.

The detection of alien ruins sends the exploration ship to the distant planet of Tgren. If their scientists can decipher the language, they can unlock the secrets of this device. Is it a key to the Tgren’s civilization or a weapon of unimaginable power? Tensions mount as their new allies are suspicious of the Cassan’s technology and strange mental abilities.

To complicate matters, the Tgrens are showing signs of mental powers themselves; the strongest of which belongs to a pilot named Athee, a woman whose skills rival Byron’s unique abilities. Forced to train her mind and further develop her flying aptitude, he finds his patience strained. Add a reluctant friendship with a young scientist, and he feels invaded on every level. All Byron wanted was his privacy…

CassaFire is the sequel to Cavanaugh’s first book, CassaStar, an Amazon Top Ten Best Seller:

“…calls to mind the youthful focus of Robert Heinlein’s early military sf, as well as the excitement of space opera epitomized by the many Star Wars novels. Fast-paced military action and a youthful protagonist make this a good choice for both young adult and adult fans of space wars.” - Library Journal

In It for the Long Haul

Have you ever heard someone say that they're in a marriage or a job for "the long haul"? I don't take the phrase as a negative one; on the contrary, I think it means that you are committed through all the ups and downs that come with certain endeavors. Writing is one long haul.

Book Trailer Thursday Time

What am I reading?
  • Fiction  on iPad - CassaStar by Alex Cavanaugh (Sci-fi novel I'm halfway through reading)
  • Fiction listen from Audible.com - Divergent by Veronica Roth (YA dystopian book I just started)
  • Non-fiction ----or so it says, *smile*--- listen from Audible.com - Area 51 by Annie Jacobsen. (This one is a little too dry for me.)
Are you reading something that I need to add to my list?

Daughter of Smoke and Bone was written by Laini Taylor. I'm not sure if it's strictly YA because the heroine is a college student. The main character Karou is an art student living in Prague and running errands for her employer, Brimstone. She has bright blue hair and constantly draws monsters in her sketchbook. My favorite parts are when Karou is a child and interacts with her makeshift family of Brimstone and Issa. That's probably why I enjoyed the first part of the book more than the last which focuses on her relationship with Akiva, the avenging warrior-angel.  I love romance as much as the next person, but the childhood scenes are pure magic.

As for this trailer, I loved seeing the monster sketches in this video. The most amazing part of the book is the world-building that unfolds so brilliantly. I think this trailer illustrates that quality well.

Delirium, a dystopian YA by Lauren Oliver, was one of my favorite reads from last year. I have been anxiously awaiting the second book in the series, Pandemonium, which releases very soon. The book trailer inserted below is the second "official" trailer and is interactive. I'd like to see what you think about interactive trailers. I'm having some technical difficulties with getting it to work on my site as accessed from YouTube.  So, I've included the videos that play if you answer "Yes" or "No".  If you want to see the one that works, it is on the author website HERE. Last, I've inserted a video interview of Lauren Oliver talking about what is involved in writing a trilogy.
Here's the interview with Lauren Oliver-
